WORLD STROKE DAY: KNOW THE SIGNS. SAVE A LIFE.

On October 29, we recognize World Stroke Day and remind our families and communities that every second matters when a stroke occurs.

As a nurse, educator, author, and stroke advocate, my mission is to make stroke education understandable for everyone—from our youngest children to our oldest loved ones. That is the heart behind HELP! My Nana Looks Funny! Sometimes, a child may be the first person to notice that Nana, Papa, Mom, Dad, or another loved one suddenly looks or sounds different.

Remember BE FAST: Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, Time. If you notice sudden problems with balance or vision, facial drooping, arm weakness, or difficulty speaking, call 911 immediately.

This World Stroke Day, talk about stroke at home. Teach your children the warning signs. Check on your loved ones. Share what you know with someone else.

Small voices can make a BIG difference.Know the signs. Make the call. Help save a life.
